Tezpur University was established as a Central University by the Government of India under the Act of Parliament. The university came into existence in the year 1994. The main objective behind the establishement of the university was to offer eployment oriented and interdisciplinary courses to meet the regional to national aspirations. Another major function of the university is to work for the development of the state of Assam and to promote research in areas related to the science and technology.
